Money Talks with Gracie Hauser from Gracie Girl Bakery
This week we have the privilege to meet Gracie Hauser founder of Gracie Girl Bakery (our stomachs are already growling!) Gracie Girl Bakery treats are free of refined sugars, processed ingredients, and preservatives. Gracie uses sweeteners like honey and applesauce so we can indulge guilt-free (shh) as she puts it, “guilt free treats that are good AND good for you.” We are already eyeing the banana bread, blueberry muffins, and the lil’ chunkers (to die!)
Most entrepreneurs start their business when they see a need in the market, that’s exactly what Gracie Hauser did…except most entrepreneurs aren’t 15?! When Gracie couldn’t find what she wanted at the grocery store, she began experimenting in the kitchen. A few years later, with over 80 original recipes and appearance on the Today Show (Yes- we are so jealous she got to meet Kathie Lee and Hoda), Gracie Girl Bakery is working on bringing her nutritious treats right to you.
Gracie Girl Bakery is still in the process of officially launching so the rest of us can get our hands on her treats but in the meantime sign-up for email notifications so you are first in line to snag up some lil’ chunkers
What’s one of the biggest lessons you’ve learned as an entrepreneur?
PATIENCE! Nothing happens as fast as you would like it to! Life isn’t Amazon Prime people-nor would I like it to be because all things happen in their perfect time, and I just have to have faith and trust. Also, about that thing called ANXIETY- it just means I care. I may worry, fret or obsess over some things, but it is just because I care- a lot!
What’s your best advice for someone wanting to start his or her own business that might be hesitant or scared?
You have this one life to live, the only thing holding you back is you! What do you have to lose? If it doesn’t work out, it wasn’t meant to be and you will recover, but when it DOES work out you will be living the life you were meant to live and sharing your passion and talents with the world.
What is your favorite thing about working for yourself? What is your least favorite?
I have always known I’ve wanted to be a boss, I like to be in charge! Working for myself allows flexible hours, (although I do not get to choose how MANY hours!) and the ability to share my dreams with the world. I get to have and share my vision of my brand, but I also love to hear other ideas and I have an amazing team of friends and family standing not behind me, but with me.
What is one accomplishment from being an entrepreneur that you are most proud of?
My gain of confidence in myself and my brand. Early on I had to learn to stand my ground. You may not know this but- sometimes people don’t take a 19 year old female entrepreneur with no college education that serious;) I make them believe in me and my product. I am plowing my own path. Who says that you have to follow “certain steps” to success? Who gets to decide what those steps are? Who gets to define the word “success”? YOU DO! I DO! WE ALL DO! There is no right or wrong answer. There is no book of life rules that are to be followed in a particular order. We define our destiny.
What is your best piece of “money advice” to your younger self?
I have always been a saver, not a spender. I think it is because I always have believed I would have the opportunity to follow my dreams, whatever they might be. Honestly, I wouldn’t do too much different. Yes, as things progress with my business I do become a bit uncomfortable not having the savings I did before. But what was I saving for? THIS MOMENT! In my opinion risk=reward. I would advise anyone to save for their dreams and one day take that leap of faith and use that money saved up to invest it in something you believe in.
If you were to track your expenses for the week, what would we see as one of your biggest guilty pleasures?
Well, honestly, right now I am not spending much at all because I really don’t have any to spend! All my money is tied up in my business. However, when I do have a little more to spend, I spend it on new healthy ingredients or foods, or fitness classes.
What’s one money habit you are wanting to break?
To be honest I don’t have one.
How did you learn about finances in relation to your business? What about your personal life?
I am a self taught entrepreneur. I did my research, but also I have had a lot of amazing people who have given me their time and advice, guiding me along my life.
Favorite day of the week?
Thursday because I have Friday and the weekend to look forward to!
Favorite dessert? Favorite Gracie Girl Bakery treat?
It’s always so hard for me to answer this question because all of my recipes are my babies! It’s like choosing a favorite child! Here are my most common go-tos though: lil’ chunkers (mini cookies), blueberry buckles, banana breads, double chocolate muffins, blueberry streusel muffins, and apple cinnamon muffins.
The one thing you can’t live without?
Favorite place you’ve ever travelled?
Currently binging or reading?
I am addicted to the new NBC show “The Village” and am in love with the book “Body Love”
